Folklife Collection - Divination
by Salisbury University Students (1991)
1 folder (0.1 linear feet)
In a series of interviews of local Eastern Shore residents in 1991, Salisbury University students and teachers collected folk life material. Denise A. King decided to write about esoteric art such as card reading. The purpose of her project was to examine how poorer members of the community use divination to cope with the pressure of survival. For this matter, she interviewed her grandmother. Ghost stories, personal narratives, card reading and fortune telling are among the folklore forms covered. Pictures of cards enclosed.
