This is a quick demo of how you can create your ILL account and place holds for articles and books. We suggest using Google Chrome as your web browser.

Interlibrary loan is the process by which a library borrows materials from and/or lends materials to another library. Upon the request of the library user, the interlibrary loan staff obtain materials not available in the SU Libraries or the University System of Maryland. Requested items may include books, journal articles, DVDs, etc. Please note that textbooks may not be requested through ILL. All materials are obtained within the guidelines of copyright guidelines.
How long does it take to get an item through ILL?
The average turnaround time is 1-2 weeks for books and 1-3 days for articles. Out-of-state and hard-to-locate materials may take longer. Rush requests are not available through ILL.
How long can I keep it?
The library that owns the item sets the loan period. If you wish to keep an item for a longer period of time, you can log in to your Interlibrary Loan account and request a renewal. Please note that the lending library determines whether or not to renew the item. If the item is not renewed, it must be returned on or before the original due date.
Whom do I contact if I have problems or questions about Interlibrary Loan?

Before placing your first interlibrary loan request, it is necessary to create an account.
Start at the Salisbury University Libraries home page and click on "My Library Accounts" on the left side of the screen next to the search bar.
After you have clicked on the "My Library Accounts" link, you will be brought to a new page. Scroll down and click on "Log in to your Interlibrary Loan account."
Next, choose your campus affiliation by clicking on Salisbury University. Enter your SU username and password. If this is your first time using the ILL system, you will be prompted to Create an Account. Your SU ID number will be populated automatically. Please make sure you mark you are a distance student and select your major from the department list. Complete the remaining fields and click on Submit Information.
Want text alerts when your items arrive or the status changes? Simply select yes in the drop down menu under the "Sign up for Text Alerts" and enter in your phone number and phone carrier.
*Note: The ILL registration needs to be done just once and this information is saved. It can also be changed at any time.
From the ILL homepage select "New Request" on the left side of the page. Next, click on the type of item you want to request (journal article, entire book, book chapter, etc.).
Complete all the fields and click on "Submit Request" at the bottom of the page. You should see a confirmation message highlighted in green with a transaction number at the top of the screen.
You will be notified by email (and text if you opted in for text alert notifications) when an item has been received and processed by the ILL office.
Follow the process explained on the previous page and be sure to select "Journal Article" when requesting an article.
Electronic copies of requested journal articles will be posted to your ILL account. To view and download the article, log in to your ILL account and click on "My Requests" and you will see "Received PDF's." Click on Received PDF's to download/print immediately.
*Note: The electronic copy of your article is stored in your account for 30 days. After 30 days, the article is deleted from your account. We suggest downloading it immediately when you receive it.
Follow the previous process explained and be sure to select "Entire Book" when requesting a book.
After being processed, books will be shipped via UPS to the library pick-up location you designated when you created your account. You will receive an email notifying you of this shipment. Please return the book to the same library location for shipment back to SU.
*Note: It typically takes an additional 3-5 business days from the time SU has checked in your book to be received by the pick-up location.
Status of Item: If you want to check the status of an item you requested, click on the request number under the Requests in Processing heading on the home page. You can also click on "My Requests," and then "Requests in Processing."
How to request renewals: Users may request a renewal of an item from their online account. Simply click on "My Items/Renew" and then "Checked Out Items."
On this page, you will see all of your items listed. If the item is eligible for renewal, click on "Request Renewal." Keep in mind, there is a limited window of time when items can be renewed--beginning five days before their due date. You will receive an email telling you whether or not the lender renewed the item and, if so, providing the new due date.
*Note: Not all ILL items are guaranteed a renewal. It is your responsibility to return the item if it is not renewed immediately.
Some items are only available from libraries that charge a fee. If this is the case, you will receive an email telling you that your request has been cancelled, and, if you are willing to pay the fee, you should resubmit the request with a note to that effect. The fees generally range from $10-$25.
