Abstract

The Baker Family papers document the personal and professional activities of Harry F. Baker and Catherine “Kitty” Baker and their children, Harry Jr., and Vaughn who lived in Salisbury, Maryland. The materials date from 1914-2013, with the bulk of the material, conveyed through photographs, dating from 1944-1955. Visually, the photographic images document the daily activities of the Baker Family, seen through the lens of Harry F. Baker. Also included, is a scrapbook and an expense book focusing on Kitty Baker’s art, Vaughn Baker’s Wicomico High School diploma from 1961 and an autograph book from 1955, an oral history by Harry F. Baker, and other ephemera. In addition, is genealogy research of the Baker Family, including manuscripts, a draft, ledger notes, and research notes by Vaughn Baker.

Biographical History

Harry Farrell Baker (1905-1994) and Catherine “Kitty” Mumford (1909-1994) were married in 1928.  Harry F. Baker was employed at Eastern Shore Public Service Utility Company and he was the co-founder of the Salisbury Camera Club. Kitty Baker was a local artist, and won best in show in the first Wicomico Art League contest in 1953.  Harry and Kitty had two sons, Harry Farrell Baker, Jr., and Vaughn Hale Baker. Harry Jr., and Vaughn were involved in various school and social activities such as, boy scouts, baseball, football, and hunting. The Baker family resided at 209 Clay Street, in Salisbury, Maryland.
